Spearing & Kayaking

Something off the beaten path from flats fishing is my buddy Matty out on the local reefs freediving solo and spearing up some good eats. He’s getting some Hog Snapper, lobster and if you look at one if the pics closely you’ll see a Lionfish. Matty is out helping clear the reefs of those invasive POS’s. Nice job on that Cero from the kayak.

Rollin’…

Finally getting back in the groove. Doug came down a few weeks back and we scoured the ICW for Snook and tarpon. It was slow with tarpon, as we only saw one. Doug hammered the diamond trevally while we waited on the tide. The Snook never really came alive, but Doug did have a few eats but never came tight.
Everett and I caught a few Snook a few nights earlier, there were a lot of fish around. Also my action craft is up at air tight trailers getting a trailer overhaul. I’ll put a few pics up in a cpl days. Tampa tourney at the end of the month and keys trip in April.

No mas Lame’Os

Well what can I say except its been a crazy 8 months for me. Going from a potential job opportunity in June that would’ve kept me in SoFla to my current job leaving SoFla for Ormond Beach. So after living in Ormond by the Sea a half mile north of Doug’s beach condo which that in itself is so ironic considering this area is awesome, I have settled in and finally gotten on the fish and wrote a report. Here in Ormond by the Sea we have the surf out front with whiting, blues, reds and pompano not to mention rideable waves at least 2-3 days a week. Out back we have the Halifax River with reds, flounder, seatrout, blues and sheepshead. So since things have finally settled down I’ve been able to get out fishing and here is a collection of what we have been catching lately. We mostly just fish a few hours before dark since the spot is just minutes from my house.

. So now we’re just waiting for Baker and Dupe and Doug and anyone to come up and visit. What the hell are you guys waiting for, the room is ready anytime you are.

Summer Rolls On…

Been a long hot summer.  Afternoon storms finally fired up over the last couple of months.  We’ve fished the dock lights quite a few times and had some good fun on the fly rods on tarpon and snook.

Have had more battles with homeowners over the water under their dock being private property this year than ever.  There are some real pricks out there.  Even had one call the police, give them false info, and ended up with a helicopter running me down.  That was a fun night!  Haven’t had the camera out much at night, its been raining a lot in the evenings.  Fished Biscayne Bay in the morning a little while back.  It was pretty slow, but we did run into a school of good sized redfish.  They were laying up in a series of potholes, impossible to see, and when the fly line landed, they all spooked.  Had a couple big tailing bonefish pop up, but they weren’t quite in range, and they were digging hard.

Lucas turned one year old August 30, and there was a nice party for him a couple days before.

A week later we spent the long Labor Day Weekend in Ormond Beach, with the Dorr’s.  We had a great dinner at the Fish House, where we tore up some oysters, tuna, cobia, crab and more.  We had fun waves every day, and two nice redfish were caught to feed us the next two evenings.

The kids were surfing their brains out during the day, and we caught some fun waves too.

On the right tide there were some good shoulder high lines coming through.  Next week Im heading down to Islamorada for a few days to fish in a fun tournament with Dave and Joe.  I’ll get some photos from down there, and look forward to getting back out in Biscayne very soon.  Peace!
