What is Camp Claw?? The name came from many mornings setting up a surf fishing
"camp" on the beaches of Boca Raton, Florida.  We graduated from using frozen shrimp to
live pilchards, small blue runners and live crabs for bait.  We caught a variety of fish here,
tarpon, barracudas, pompano, sharks, bonito, jack crevalle, permit and spanish mackerel .
My favorite fishing was for tarpon right before and during summertime.  On the good days
we'd hook 2 to 4 tarpon, most shaking the hook on the second or third jump, except for a few
which were landed in front of a crowd of excited spectators.  Many a  British tourist had
never seen anything quite like it.   Permit, Snook and sharks were also targets for us and we
began to use live crabs exclusively for bait.  We removed the claws to make them easier prey
for the fish.  The claws ended up in the sand and sure enough you would step on them.  After
cutting our feet up so many times, our area was deemed Camp Claw.   Joggers in bare feet
knew to steer well clear of our area.  It's nothing serious, just a place to archive some fishing
information and to share some experiences with family and friends.  Thanks for taking the
time to read a little about us.  Please feel free to drop us a line or make any comments or
suggestions--S.Baker 1999
